Job Responsibilities – Grounds Crew
- Maintenance of grounds, including mowing, weed-whacking, and trail clearance.
- Basic repairs to buildings in response to damage to the facilities.
- Maintenance of event equipment (e.g. cleaning, painting, and staining).
- Preparation of the show grounds for upcoming events (e.g. help build jumps, set up dressage arenas, clean barns, and deliver hay and shavings).
- Maintenance of the show grounds during events (e.g. remove rubbish from barns and buildings, water and/or drag arenas, clean bathrooms, and reset equipment).
- Restoration of the grounds after events (e.g. pick up and store equipment, repair buildings and footings, clean the facilities, and perform repairs).
Essential Skills and Qualities
- A valid driver’s license with the competence to drive a variety of trucks and ATVs.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn how to run, small equipment (e.g. weed-whacker, lawnmower, and power tools).
- Basic handyman skills (e.g. the ability to paint and perform basic repairs).
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
- Willingness to perform tasks to a deadline, working flexible hours when needed.
- Fitness for physically demanding work such as heavy lifting and carrying on a daily basis.
- Ability and willingness to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
- Good communication skills and a personable manner towards supervisors, other staff, clients, suppliers, and the general public.
- Honesty, reliability, and a good work ethic.
Desirable Skills
- Advanced driving skills (e.g. agricultural or commercial experience).
- Competence in carpentry and mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of equestrian competitions.
Hours of Work
Seasonal full time.
40 hour basic working week with overtime as agreed.
Weekends and some early mornings and evening work are required.
Work schedules will vary from day to day dependent on event requirements.
