A Century of Horses, Trails & Community

One hundred years ago, the Green Mountain Horse Association was founded in the heart of Vermont with a simple but enduring mission: to preserve and celebrate the bond between horse and rider. Since 1926, GMHA has been a cornerstone of the equestrian community—hosting an array of equestrian competitions and events, including the legendary 100-Mile Competitive Trail Ride; nurturing Vermont’s bridle trails; and welcoming generations of riders, families, and horse lovers to our beautiful grounds in South Woodstock.

This summer, we are proud to mark our Centennial Anniversary with a grand celebration—a community BBQ and festivity honoring a century of trails blazed, competitions run, and memories made. We expect this to be a landmark event drawing riders, alumni, families, and supporters from across New England and beyond.

Flood Mitigation Plans & Goals

Bee’s Field

Goal: $250,000

Reconnect the floodplain and lower the top of the banks to approximately the 25-year flood elevation level, allowing floodwaters to spread out over the field.

Upwey Arena

Goal: $500,000

Remove existing footing material and drainage systems, regrade the arena to reduce the final slope, and install a more robust kickboard fence.

Walker Ring & Dust Bowl

Goal: $125,000

Lower the work area between the arena edge and Brook banks to allow additional flood storage capacity, then restore disturbed areas with replanting.

Upwey Brook

Goal: $125,000

Create a bench along the stream channel to widen the Brook, hold increased floodwaters, and better contain smaller storm events within the channel.

Marketing Opportunities: Water Truck Naming: $100,000 Barn Naming: $250,000 Office Room Naming: $33,000
