Preserve the Past, Secure the Future

The Green Mountain Horse Association has been a significant force in the development of equestrian sports in the United States since its founding in 1926.  It has also been instrumental over the years in developing and maintaining a network of miles of open trails, access to which is provided through the generosity of private owners.

GMHA celebrated its 80th Anniversary in October 2006.  Over 80 years, tens of thousands of people have learned, practiced, competed, shared experiences and have enjoyed the sense of community of horse lovers on GMHA grounds. GMHA is proud of its membership of passionate people of all ages dedicated to good horsemanship and respectful stewardship of the surrounding land.  They support GMHA with over 3000 volunteer hours yearly.  The increased importance of GMHA’s land stewardship is underscored by its symbiotic relationship with the local community of South Woodstock , which recognizes our efforts to preserve and protect open space and our fragile environment. View the GMHA fact sheet to see how both GMHA members and the local community benefit from the Green Mountain Horse Association.

On October 7th, 2006, GMHA launched the public phase of its first ever Capital Campaign, Preserve the Past, Secure the Future. The Campaign, which runs through December 2008 will raise $2.5 million for the following initiatives:

bullet

Preserve and Protect the Trail Network

bullet

Renovate and Expand the Roger and Ana Ela Youth and Education Center

bullet

Improve Stabling

bullet

Ensure safe footing and grounds

bullet

Create a multi-purpose grass area

bullet

Add spectator seating

bullet

Renovate the Upwey Barn

There are numerous ways to help GMHA’s Campaign. Special Naming Opportunities that support the Trails Endowment Fund and overall Campaign are available.  Contribute at a giving level appropriate to your means.  Celebrate a special occasion by giving in honor of a loved one. Give so that others may enjoy GMHA for generations to come.

To date, the GMHA board contributed $240,000 and boasts of 100% participation.  In addition, a handful of close friends of GMHA stepped forward to contribute $1 million by the kick-off on October 7th, 2006.

GMHA needs your support.  Please contact Alicia Connors, Campaign Manager, or a member of the Campaign Steering Committee to see how you can help make the Capital Campaign a resounding success.
